The Johnny Nelson Katy Heritage Museum

The The Johnny Nelson Katy Heritage Museum is dedicated to the history of the Katy area and its residents. The museum is located in the heart of downtown Katy, Texas and is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Admission is free.


History

The Katy area was first settled in the early 1830s by pioneers from Tennessee and Kentucky. These early settlers were attracted to the area by the abundance of timber and game. The first permanent settlement in the area was Fort Bend, which was established in 1837.
